LGBTQIA+ are five times more likely to experience trafficking than their heterosexual counterparts True. According to the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking, while those youth identifying as LGBTQIA+ comprise about 10% of the population, they constitute approximately 40% of the homeless youth population placing them at greater risk of being trafficked.

An estimated 95% of people being trafficked know their trafficker before being trafficked True. The data indicates 40% are trafficked by an intimate partner, 30% are trafficked by a family member and 25% are trafficked by a familiar person in a position of power/authority, i.e., teacher, coach, religious leader etc.

Since COVID there has been a 400% increase in online grooming activities by traffickers False. According to FBI data, the correct estimate is an increase of 800%

The lack of a supportive adult in a youth’s life, increases their risk of being trafficked True. Based on a number of studies, having a supportive adult in a youth’s life is the number one protective factor against being trafficked.

Youth vulnerabilities are considered factors that place youth at greater risk of potentially being trafficked True. Foster care, history of neglect or abuse, low self-esteem or loneliness, truancy, and BIPOC and other factors are listed in the Risk Factor section of the website.
